BALA
QUILA
Towering on a craggy hill and dominating the
town is Bala Quila
(Virgin fort).Constructed in 928 A.D. by the
Nikhumba Rajputs.One gets a stunning view of
the surrounding country side and miles of
ramparts that enclose the fort.
BHANGARH
50Kms inside Sariska sanctuary lie the
splendid ruins of Bhangarh.
Built in the 17th century by Raja
Madho Singh, brother of Raja Man Singh of
Amer. According to legend, the town was
cursed by an evil magician and had to be
abandoned.
JAISAMAND
Maharaja Jai Singh constructed this in 1910.
It is an excellent picnic spot, especially
in the rainy season when the entire
countryside is lush green.
CITYPALACE
The City Palace was
built in 1793 A.D. by Raja Bakhtawar singh.
It represents a marriage of Rajput and
Mughal styles, it has gracefull marble
pavillions set on lotus-flower bases in the
central courtyard.
VIJAYMANDIR PALACE
It is the royal residence of Maharaja Jai
Singh, built in 1918 A.D.Migratory birds and
waterfowls can be observed feeding on fish
in the lake, beside the palace.
SILISERH LAKE
Enroute to Sariska, 12 Kms. south west of
Alwar is the hunting lodge of
Siliserh built on a lake
surrounded by low, wooded hills.
SARISKA PALACE
Nestled in the quaint surroundings
of Aravalli, this thickly wooded
part throbs with life. It is a
marvel of ecological adaptation and
endurance. It is not only a delight
for wildlife lovers but also for the
enthusiast of art and archaeology.
There are about three Hundred Hindu
and Jain temples constructed between
the 8th for the 12th centuries,
which have great mythological,
religious as well as historical
significance.
SARISKA TIGER RESERVE & NATIONAL
PARK
The tiger reserve features dry open
deciduous forests sprawling over a
vast tract of rolling hills and
valleys, with lovely springs
cascading through them. It has
numerous valuable sites of
geological and historical intrest
and above all, a rich,varied and
exotic fauna cinsisting of the
leopard, hyena, jungle cat, samber,
chital, nilgai, chausingha, jakal,
wild boar, wild dog, langurs and
rhesus monkey.
MAKE YOUR OWN ITINARY
Alwar is so close to other tourist places
that you will have no problem in chalking
out a fun filled weekened for yourself. If
you are arriving from Delhi(160 K.m), halt
of Alwar, and then move on to Jaipur?(148
K.m). Or the other way around.
You can also take a detour to Bharatpur Bird
Sanctuary(116K.m). Enroute are the lovely
Deeg Palaces (76K.m). Fetehpur Sikri is just
35 K.ms from Bharatpur. Add 17 Kms to that,
and you will be in Agra (166 Kms from Alwar) |
